An Ideal Market

The K-12 education market in the United States presents a unique opportunity for socially responsible investors to make a profit and make a difference. Peterson’s—the premier research provider for colleges, universities and independent schools—has stated it succinctly, “Private Schools: Hottest Thing Since Sliced Bread.” In their most recent report, they make the case. “Private school enrollment has officially moved out of the parlors of the East Coast upper class and into the living rooms of mainstream America.” In the past two decades, similar market forces have also resulted in the creation of more than 5,000 charter schools.

The growing popularity of private schools and charters is driven by the research-backed belief that such schools provide better education, better structure, and better discipline than public schools. Research demonstrates that school culture is the primary reason Americans are abandoning traditional public schools. Poor educational quality, though critical, is secondary. Americans from every social stratum rightly discern that the public schools are spiritually spent. They fail to provide a wholesome context for moral maturation, socialization and serious learning.

A Global Brand

Cambridge Advisory’s New Classics™ Educational Plan is classroom tested and parent approved. It is the most challenging K-12 academic sequence in the United States. Having now secured a handsome Georgian schoolhouse on the original Old Town site and the exclusive use of both the Alexandria Academy™ and Washington Latin School™ names, the Advisory is poised to create an international brand. The Washington Latin School is America’s School. Cities and town across the country and around the world can have one.

Through building company-owned private academies, licensing and managing public charter schools and creating distance learning and new media social networks, Cambridge Advisory seeks to become the source for those who value classical or liberal education—both in the United States and throughout the world.

What We Do

 A Flagship School

Endowed by George Washington in 1785, Alexandria Academy has been called, “the birthplace of universal education in the United States.” On September 7th, 2010—exactly 225 years from the day the cornerstone was laid, the new Alexandria Academy will open its doors. As the flagship of Cambridge Advisory’s schools, Alexandria Academy will re-establish the classical common school model in the United States. Its historic campus will serve as a home to the Advisory, a laboratory of educational best practice, and a training ground for the professional development of gifted school leaders.
